GET RID OF BUSINESS CARDS

The good thing of a business card is it gives you all practical information from a person who you just met, related to his job. Handy and concise. What you learn about that person is largely depending on the talent of that company to find a talented designer who has been able to give expression to that company in a way that does the company right. This is of course his vision on the vision of the company, an interpretation. Expressed by a logo, typography, spacing, kerning, paper selection, printing techniques and other thinkable graphic craftsmanship mixed with the ability to translate the essence of that company into the right symbols that expres everything the company is instead of does. And, of course, what is written on it like name, titles, etc.

The bad thing about them, that in most cases, business cards are boring, have long titles for functions you need to look up to understand what they mean and if you sort of figured it out, still only tell what role you fulfill for a company and nothing about who you are. They create distance by showing what you do, not who you are. They say something about what you do about 40 hours per week, but nothing about the other 128. About 56 hours of sleep still leaves a 72 hours of you doing other stuff, mostly with other people, doing what you want to do and not need to do. Wouldn’t it be more fun to know more about people when you meet them and end up working together? What they like, their hobbies, interests? Will made working together more personal, will add your personality to what you do together and the work you do together will quite likely more unique.
