All crucial innovation projects are stealth: they are there, but you don’t see them. However, they will affect you when they’re done. Most of these trajectories are carefully protected behind agreements, the so called ‘Non Disclosure Agreements’ where all parties involved solemnly swear not to share anything involved with the project. And that way, a lot of useful information other people could learn from, gets wasted. In an age where transparency and openness is crucial, demanded and even forced by people (or consumers how these people are mostly named) through e.g. social media, to make better services and products, this does not help. Of course there are a lot of initiatives out there that facilitate transparency in the process of development. Open platforms, open design, etc. And yes, also rights can be organized differently by e.g. creative commons licences. That is all great. It all helps in making better decisions, sharing information and collaborative work. We would like to introduce something extra:
The Do Disclose Agreement.
The Do Disclose Agreement (DDA) is the total opposite of the Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA), where all people involved know that anything within a project can be shared with anybody. It might even be the end of Wikileaks. Because when everything is open, what’s there to leak?
Why
We came to this idea because of our involvement in several projects that will help making this world a little bit better, from schools to hospitals, from brands to organisations. Everything learned and developed within such a project can be of direct relevance to a similar project somewhere else. And, when information is open, it will also force people to be continuously creative, relevant and on the edge of things. It will work both ways.
How
A website is in the making where people can start a disclosure agreement and invite collaborators to sign it with their social media account (hyves, facebook, twitter, linkedin). When they do, that will automatically broadcasted to their social network so all of their friends, relatives, people they have met, vague acquaintances and colleagues and relations know they have committed themselves to collaborate on a project. And that they are free to start sharing their learnings with anybody.
