Waacs went camping, and made a book along the way…

Occasion
Sometimes things just come together at the right time. This was such an occasion. Waacs celebrated its 15-year anniversary, refreshed with a new team, new identity and new focus. To celebrate this, looking back in the form of a portfolio book or ‘best of’ book would make sense. Not to Waacs. They rather look forward. And if they make a book, it should also be useful or even helpful to its readers. It shouldn’t end up at a bookshelf; otherwise they would only design a couple of great book spines that help make your library more impressive. Coincidentally Spinhex & Industry —a high quality printer with a focus on designers— approached them to design and direct their occasional publication Indruk (in English ‘imprint’ or ‘impression’).

Their communication is based on the theme of ‘Senses’. Question to Waacs is to design an ‘Indruk’ with the theme ‘taste’ (or ‘test’ or ‘proof’) in mind. Next to that Waacs got an invite from a campsite in the North of the Netherlands, which offered them a stay at their site in return of a design favor. Since Waacs has a history with caravans, they simply couldn’t resist this kind offer. So, what would happen if they added things up? Put all of the above in the blender? And add some additional ambition to the project?

The book features contributions by Fons Schiedon, Joachim Baan, Stang, Mr Pen, Max Kisman, Devon Reid, Alrik Koudenburg, Enkeling, Ivo Victoria and about 80 more creatives.
